I think my Jeep is possessed !!

by TrapGT / June 23, 2007 4:04 AM PDT

OK here is the deal.... I drive my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee for a few months then it stalls and won't start. I tow the thing back home and it won't start for a week or so. It will turn over but will not start at all. So I wait a week or so and try it and the thing starts right up. The wierd part is that it will run for a month or so before it happens again. I have had it to several machanics and they can't find the issue. Even the dealer here was stumped. I have replaced every sensor on the thing, been through 2 computers, a transmission so I am done with pouring anymore money into it. Any body else hear of anything like this?

The first thing I think of when people say "possessed" is grounding problem. A bad ground somewhere will cause the most insane problems.

When it will not start:
A: does it fire the spark plugs?
B: is gas being injected?

If there's no spark, ohm check the wires plugs and the coil.
If there's no gas, ohm check the injectors.

If everything checks out, it's got to be wiring, grounding or ECU.

Yeah I've had my fair share of 'posession' problems haha. When it doesn't start you should check fuel and spark. Does your vehicle have a main relay that controls the fuel pump? I know that's a big problem with hondas...especially when it's hot. the contact points on the relay are cracked and sometimes wont engage the fuel pump, and it can sit for hours, days without starting, then somehow start on other days.

Found the problem
by TrapGT / July 17, 2007 5:31 AM PDT
In reply to: my bet? was hard to find but I think we found the problem. Unfortunately, I can't find the part anywhere. It seems a previous owner replaced the ignition coild and when they installed the new one they cracked the inline resister and also broke the connector that goes to the coil.

This isn't the wire that goes to the distributor but the wire and connector that goes into the whole wiring harness. Anybody have any idea of where I can get a wire and connector? The dealership said a junk yard lol
