I use IE6 and the following will work best for me (thanks Dave):
Open any or all messages on the first page in the same window EXCEPT the final message, which should be opened in a new window and then closed. I can then press the Next button (and it matters not whether in the same or a new window).
By doing this, I can see the ?read? posts, which I cannot if I open every post in a new window.
That is all ? the following is more likely to be of interest to Lee than people generally.
Flaw in Software:
This relates only to threads running to 3 pages (I assume meaning any number more than 2 pages) and explains to me why I was so confused. (It is thanks to Clay that I decided to investigate this further). However, I note that there are not many 3-page threads.
Yes Clay, I do get the remaining posts on Page 2 with as many of the preceding posts as are necessary to make up a full page. It is because of this that I had become in the habit of opening the last post on the first page to determine the message number, so that I could find out quickly where to start from on the second page relative to the number of the first message shown.(*)
(*) That is why I was slightly cross that the software always dropped down another message, since if I wanted to read it, the software dropped another one on the bottom, so I could never get to Page 2, but as stated above, I just need to open the last one in a new window.
The flaw is that the numbering does not carry across correctly from Page 1 to Page 2 on 3-page threads, so it is not clear whether one is being offered the messages consecutively or skipping or whatever.
The simplest experiment to show this is to use the D
