Question

I sold my HP laptop. How do i properly remove, clean, etc?

Jul 5, 2017 8:39PM PDT

I've got an HP Pavilion dv7 that I just sold online. It has windows 10 on it and the buyer bought it with the promise that it would stay on it. I've got Office 365 plus iCloud for Windows and iTunes as well.

I need to get all of my stuff that's not saved to the cloud into either OneDrive or iCloud or both and then clean the heck out of this laptop. Like really wipe it completely. How do I do that properly?

Then I need to make sure that Windows 10 is either still on it and active or goes back on it and is active. How do I do that?

Then I need to know any other tips and tricks for physically cleaning the laptop and what else to do before I ship it. It's my first time (obviously) and I'm also not super computer saavy (also obviously, I'm sure.)

Please help?

Dban, dd, linux...
Jul 6, 2017 12:00PM PDT

Thank you for your advice. I will have to post questions regarding each of the things you recommended lol. I think I know what Linux is but only in a roundabout way. Either way I'm pretty sure I haven't the first idea about how to utilize it. Notice my user name is "alwaysanenduser" so I'm dealing with a lot of my own ignorance regarding tech here. Any details or specifics would be much appreciated.
