General discussion

I smoke too much!

May 17, 2019 11:25AM PDT

How can I reduce the spent on Smoking? I want to try vape instead Cigarettes to reduce my spent in smoke. It's to quit smoking cigarettes. I was referred to this vape to reduced the spent monthly on smoking.

My another question is also vaping is good or bad for health?
As smoking cigarette is bad for health so is vape too?
As I referred to vape from some friends they said vape is more affordable than cigarette also not bad for health.

In fact, many bad things in tobacco.

The one actual poison is nicotine.
The active ingredient in vape is nicotine.

Brave new world.

For regulations to kick in, studies to be done but having seen a family member die early I can only write he was a good deterrent to his children and others as the end was drawn out and humiliating.

also radiation!
May 17, 2019 4:59PM PDT

I remember an article explaining how tobacco naturally concentrates radioisotopes and thereby some of the harm of smoking came from internal (lung, throat, digestive tract) organs being irradiated at a low-level for as long as one smoked. As I recall the science was robust but could not "for certain" say that it was a major factor in cancers.

You can buy a pound of tobacco online for $12-13 and tubes are $2.25-3.00 for box of 200. A zippo injector is less than $8.00 and works for thousands. Cuts a pack price after shipping charge to less than $1.50 per pack. However pipe tobacco works better for injecting if a food processor is used to chop it a bit finer, but use pulse and check to get it right, don't turn it to dust.

I had no idea I could get tobacco so inexpensively. Here in Houston they've clamped down on the "roll-your-own" crowd, it seems, as many places that used to sell bulk stuff are gone. I used to use a Rizla roller thingy with papers and loose filters - never got around to trying the injectors with tubes.

Thanks again for the link,

Cheers! (hope you had/having a nice Memorial Day!)

most similar is "silver" varieties, next stronger is "blue" and strongest is "red" (turkish style). Usually crumble rolled in hands to reduce size from "pipe" is enough needed. Don't overstuff the injector, keep it in the "groove". Better to use the 100mm injectors even on "king size" tubes, just being careful to not tear tube tip. All the "natural" flavors are typically best avoided, unless you intend to flavor your self.

Avoid Hot Rod tubes, bad paper and even burn it on the filters, a fire hazard. Best fit are the Golden Harvest tubes for the zippo. Gambler is a bit tighter, thinner paper, tears easier, a bit fussy, but otherwise good tubes too.

Ideally I should quit the dang things, but after about forty years... Well, anyhow, there's plenty of things that will kill ya - around where I live gunshots at 3 a.m. are not rare, and the thought of getting hit by a stray bullet through the window has often crossed my mind! :^)

There are two topics going here.
May 27, 2019 5:18PM PDT

Saving money while fostering the habit, and quitting the habit. Which also saves money; 100%.
As to the first, the OP in fact, I guess the homebrew will do that. However, as I understand James' method, it gives you all the tobacco elements, not processed as the pros do it. Now you've added back in the cancer stuff to go with the heart affects. IOW, you're still smoking. But you have saved money. Remember the satirical Raleigh ad? "I got these chest X-rays free with Raleigh coupons!"

Hi Doug.

My dad (a soldier) smoked "twist" in his pipe. Which was chewing tobacco miners (my grandad) used down the pits.
Never had any flies in the house though. Laugh

Yeah, I came across twist in Kipling's soldier stories.

Out here the farmers and ranchers chew for the same reason as your grandad- no flames. Kids take it up early. Sad

Isaiah 6: 3And they called out to one another: Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of Hosts; His glory fills all the earth. 4The doorposts and thresholds shook at the sound of their voices, and the temple was filled with smoke. 5Then I said, “Woe is me, for I am ruined, because I am a man of unclean lips dwelling among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Hosts.”

Revelation 15: “And the Temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power, and no man was able to enter into the Temple, till the seven plagues of the seven Angels were fulfilled.”

Is that significant???
(Troll bait. DNR)

Also in Revelation and other places: Smoke from OT sacrifices makes 'a pleasing odor to Jehovah'.
Smoke from incense ditto.

OT Law gone now. But Paul says Christians can make other sacrifices, spiritual ones. Heb 13:15.

It's the nicotine that's the primary addictive substance, and it's toxic. It's also the active ingredient in vape. Supposed to make you ease out of smoking. I've been around vapers, but didn't notice any behavior changes.
The American Cancer Society has an excellent program for addressing all the factors in tobacco addiction. Look them up.

I agree
May 30, 2019 1:17AM PDT

I agree, it's hard work with withdrawal symptoms to combat, but I really think it's better to stay away from vaping or be honest with how often you're using it. I don't really see my friends who vape cutting on their reliance for nicotine even when they say it is less harmful.
