OS X 10.3.9 and it is up to date on updates less 1 update for Itunes.
Cannot access cdrom holding down c on bootup to get install disc to run disc check. Can get there once os x is brought up on HD. Since I couldn't get to run diagnostics from install disc I did fsck check on command line. OS checks ok on fsck, did it several times to be sure.
Also reset pram and nvram to try and clear the problem. Also ran disc utils/first aid on sytem and also on onyx. Onyx reports binding errors in error report but does all of the maintenance functions.
Each time I boot to command line I get the same results:
diskOs10 I/O error.
/etc/rc.boot: line 13: /bin/stty: Input/output error...also same syntax for lines 14,15,16,17,18,and 19. "Root device is mounted read-only. (ran /sbin/fsck -yf and also ran /sbin/mount -uw....
system will load to HD and function normally once it's up..very long boot up time. Plan on buying a new HD (larger) in the near future.
My concern is 1. Am I doing the right things in checking this out.
2. Will the error msgs go away when I replace HD?...I know it will give OS X more breathing room but wondering if I/O errors a different issue?
