General discussion

i need to get xbox connection suggestions!! help me plz!

Jan 23, 2007 8:39AM PST

i have a situation i want to adress before i actually purchase xbox live.

i have my internet connection. (cable)
my router is in my living room close to the pc. and then my xbox is in my room. which is ummm across the house. (30-ish feet)

i need to know how i can get it all hooked up into my room. i heard there was some type of wireless adapter that could get it from my router into my room. but thats quite expensive i belive. or i can run it through the walls which is almost 100% not going to happen. lets not even consider that a choice.

what can i do?????

You have to go wireless

You will need the Xbox 360 wireless adapter($99), and a wireless G router. Linksys has a good one for about $50. If you have the original XBOX, I dont know of any wireless options available for it. Or you could opt for the PS3 with built in wireless. Regardless, you will need a wireless router to stream the connection to your console. I say stick with the 360. Hope this helps.

extra long cable solution...
Jan 24, 2007 12:05PM PST

well i got a hold of a computer buddy. he can pretty much do everything for cheap somehow. he says he can make me a 50 foot long ethernet cable or something to carry the internet connection.

will that work correctly and support the internet connection?

Alternative to MS Wireless Adapter
Jan 24, 2007 10:54PM PST

A hard-wired connection will work, but you'll presumably have to keep the wires neat, tuck it behind doors and under thresholds and buy clips to keep the wire in place. If you are looking for an inexpensive wireless solution then get a Wireless G router and a Zoom Game Point Wireless Adapter. The Zoom costs $50 and has not dropped a signal yet for me - going on 3 months. It takes about 2 minutes to setup if you have a wireless router. MS doesn't have to hold you by the balls.
