I Need To Download XP...

I am a total computer moron! Don't laugh, but I need to download XP, I currently have ME. I have the disk, but I need step-by-step instructions on how to do this. Don't say, "Download all of your files onto a disk," because I really, really don't know how to do this. Seriously,-- "Step 1: Turn on your computer. Step 2:...Well, you get the idea. Please help, someone! Much appreciated!!!!!

Easiest way to install XP

In reply to: I Need To Download XP...

If you want to upgrade to XP, Just insert the Windows XP disk into your CDROM Drive. When you choose to install, choose to upgrade your current installation. It will ask you for your product key. The whole installation is for the majority automated. It will however ask you a few questions along the way, something that even someone like you could comprehend.

You can't. . .

In reply to: I Need To Download XP...

XP is a full operating system and it is not available for download. But you can buy a CD at any computer store. The upgrade (from Me) is around a hundred bucks, the full version for installing on a blank HD is about one-fifty.

You can't download XP

There are no legal copies of XP available for downloading.

You need to purchase a Windows XP CD, either a full version or the proper upgrade version.

I didnt see anything "illegal"

In reply to: You can't download XP

I just saw the person had the disk. Sometimes, those who do not have sufficient knowledge of computer terminiology may refer to the installation process as "downloading"

I already have the upgrade disc...

In reply to: You can't download XP

I should have included, in my post, the fact that when I bought this computer 6 years ago, XP was very soon to be released. I had to mail a postcard in with a copy of my reciept from Circuit City. A few weeks later, I got the upgrade CD in the mail. I just never downloaded it. Now, I have some new Christmas toys for the computer, and are not compatible with ME.

Ram?

In reply to: Perhaps this has what you want?

Also, one should be aware that XP needs more ram than ME to function right. It will work with less but will run very slow.
Microsoft recommends 256mg or more where ME would work fine with 128 or less.

In the case of WINXP try to get 512 MB of Ram

In reply to: Ram?

there is a checker as to what your system will need. I have an old Gateway, 3 slots will hold 256MB RAM = 796 RAM. This site, if you buy from them, it is micron.com but the checker is: http://www.crucial.com/ (scan my system)
