Question

I need to choose a gaming laptop, help needed

Jul 17, 2019 3:13AM PDT

Hello all,

I need to make a choice between 2 gaming laptops and I was wondering what to choose.

HP Omen 15 inch with:
I7 8750H clock 2.2Ghz Turbo up to 4.1 Ghz
16GB DDR4 memory (1× 16gb)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Max-Q 8Gb dedicated
G-Sync
144hz screen

OR

HP Omen 15 inch with:
I7 9750H clock 2.6 Ghz Turbo up tp 4.5 Ghz
16 GB DDR 4 ( 2x 8GB)
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB dedicated
no Gsync
144hz screen.
Both laptops are priced the same.
Wich one gives me more bang for my bucks?

Do you play games that would profit from 8 GB video RAM compared with 6 GB video RAM?
Do you have a G-sync compatible monitor or are you planning to buy one? Or will you only play your games on the 15" laptop screen?

thanks for the quick reply.

I will play new high-end games on this laptop without using external monitors.
Games like PUBG, BF5 and new upcomming games on high settings minimum.

I'm going to have to wing it on this one.

The Max Q is usually dis'd for it's lower performance but better battery times.

The 2060 (not Max Q) should be your performance winner.

Also the 1x 16GB memory stick takes its toll on performance. The first should suffer in benchmarks against the 2060 equipped model.

I normally supply bench results but the 2060 is too new today. Maybe in a month so I'll wing it on this one. The 2060 wins from my experience.
