You can try eBay or Craigslist

You can try eBay or Craigslist, but anything you find on the cheap is likely to either be stolen or damaged in some way that you don't even want to mess with. Or just so ridiculously old it's pretty much useless.

Otherwise, Apple sets the prices, and only allows retailers to deviate from it by a small margin. What you see at one retailer will be pretty much the same as what you see at any other retailer, give or take about 10%.

I am Getting a new MacBook Pro & Selling a 1-Year-old MBP.
Jan 14, 2011 7:56PM PST

I have a MBP that is about 1 year old with applecare and at the time the top of the line. I need a special configured one for an online course I am teaching so I am in the process of wondering how to sell this MacBook Pro. Never sold a computer online, but if you are interested I can give you all the scoop, and if you and I can agree on a price and how neither of us can get ripped off, I will then have to find out how to wipe out the hard drive.

The Applecare can be transferred to the new owner, I purchased it at the local Apple Store, and I am sure you can look up the serial number on Apple's website. I looked up the serial number for kicks on a website that is not related to Apple lie www.MacBookproserialnumber.com or something like that. It gave everything correct except the upgrade I did from a 2..06 processor to a 3.06 or something close to this. That is the only error I could find.

I know it has 8gb RAM, 500 GB hardrive, 7200rpm, I doubt I can afford to go lower than $1400 if I want to make. New, it was $2200 without the applecare.

Just as a matter of interest,

what sort of special configuration do you need to have done to a Mac computer for it to be able to do an on-line course?

What would a new MBP have, that your current MBP does not, to enable it to do this course?

Only thing I can think of

Only thing I can think of is audio output on mini-displayport or possibly nvidia based graphics instead of intel.

I am not a techie person but I do know what it looks like
Jan 15, 2011 11:20AM PST

From what I have now, I have to have a different graphics display, a configuration where I can see my client on my TV. It is a one to one Coaching through the American College of Spots Medicine. They have been using an "out dated" platform that has worked OK for me and the other Coaches but they bought into a new platform that requires much more. I can't use even a macBook Pro unless I want to get one of their displays. I really do not understand how to hook things up but I do know that they have a person come out from back East to set things up for the west-based coaches.

We are updating our video cameras, adding some new major software, a new audio in and out set-upo which I do not understand. I am really just a good wellness coach, but I get so lost when they tell me I need this and that or fix this or that. In me they don't get both. As long as they are paying ? for the system and software, I am OK with that.

OK, Who's footing the bill goes a long way.

Cheap Mac
Jan 31, 2011 4:45AM PST

I recently bought a refurbished G4 laptop from Computer Geeks (www.geeks.com) for $240. If you go to their site and search for Mac, whatever they have available will be there (from iBooks to iMacs) but they don't carry them all the time so you might have to wait a little while... check daily or weekly... well worth it!!! They also offer extended warranties for cheap... good safety net, and worth it as well. Hope this helped!!! Happy

Try refurbished mac or macincloud

Apple sells refurbished mac. You can get them for about $100 cheaper. Search on google and for "refurbished mac"

Another option I recently discovered is that you can rent a mac for really cheap remotely from Macincloud (www.macincloud.com) and you can use any PC to access it remotely. It works really well for me.

Most Mac software don't need installation though. Drag the app to the desktop and you can use it.
