Some tie it down before they know it works. That is, they go right to 128 bit WEP, disable the SSID and waste a few weeks.
In four minutes it will be friday and i've been trying to figure this out on my own sice Wednesday. I have a netgear wgr614v6 wireless router in my office upstairs and a netgear me101 downstairs.
Background - On Tuesday night we had a heck of a t-storm here and I lost a router and one nic card from my home network. I replaced the router (old one was mgr614v4) but now all the devices downstaris cannot connect with the me101.
I set it up just the way I did las time (as far as I can remember) by connecting it to my laptop to set up the SSID and WEP. The funny thing is, if I connect my laptop exclusively to the me101 after it is configured then I can get the internet but the DMR, PS2, and Xbox cannot get an IP address.
On the router I have the SSID set, and WEP enabled to open key @ 128 bit encryption and matched the me101 with the same settings.
The other thing that I don't remember is the me101 currently is set to use an IP address automatically yet it sets and IP address of 220.127.116.11 but my network only runs from 18.104.22.168 t0 51. Is that right? Is the darn thing fried from the storm? Why can I get throughput when the laptop is connected to the hub downstairs but not any of the other devices? Did I miss a step somewhere.
BTW the firware is upgraded to v2 which I guess it needs to obtain IP addresses yet it doesn't seem to be working. I also connected all the other devices directly to the modem just to make sure those Internet cards were not fried with no problems - connected fine.
I'm pulling my hair out because in 12 hours I'm supposed to have a lan party and i cannot figure out *** is wrong here. Any once of help would be greatly appreciated a thousand times over.
