General discussion

I need some clarification...

Apr 13, 2006 1:34PM PDT

I am in the market for a new mp3 player, and I think that the Samsung is the one I want. I think... My only hang-up is that c-net says that you can't make "on the go playlists". I am not really sure what that means, but if it means what I think it does, I can't make a randomly selected playlist whenever I want to.... I must have to either listen to one artist or download it from my computer? That is a big bummer for me b/c I want to set up a new list of songs right before I go for a run. Can I do this with the Samsung? If not, is there any other player I can do that with besides the iPod?

Thanks!

No, the new Samsung (I take it you are on about the new YP-Z5) will not do on-the-go playlists- so you cannot select a group of various songs to play before you go for a run etc. However, it has a very good shuffle feature- you can shuffle all songs on the player, all songs from an artist, all songs from one album, or all songs from a playlist created by WMP10. If you must have the on-the-go playlist feature, then this isn't the player for you. However, for myself and my wife, it is excellent and we feel this feature is not needed.

The Shuffle options on the Z5 are second to none...

I just wanted to add to the previous reply. One thing that wasn't mentioned was that you can shuffle by Artist, Album, Playlist, Genre, All Songs, and even Composer! Most (All?) other MP3 only let you shuffle all songs or songs in a specific folder.

I decided to get a little clever with my Composer ID3 tags by changing them to represent various moods, eg. Melancholy, Happy, etc... You can edit the Composer tags in WMP10 (Right Click the track and select Advanced Tag Editor) with ANY parameter you wish -- Now you can shuffle all your tracks by Mood!

I wrote a fairly extensive review on the 4GB Silver Z5 (Why I chose the Z5...) -- Check it out if you're still undecided.

Hope this helps!
