Question

I need help with what software to get for manufacturing.

Sep 8, 2015 8:18PM PDT

I own a custom drum company and we build the highest quality musical drums available today. When we get an order for a product we then order the parts needed to build that product from our suppliers. This has been easy to do in the past since it has been pretty small but it is starting to grow and I am spending hours creating purchase orders.

Is there software that will allow me to create a product then list what materials are needed to build that product and automatically populate a purchase order to our supplier for the needed parts?

For example, if we sell a 10" rack tom then we will need to order 12 lugs, 24 mounting screws, 2 hoops, 12 tension rods, etc. I would like to be able to simply add a 10" rack tom to a purchase order and have the software automatically populate the PO with the parts needed to build a 10" rack tom.

I am not sure how to fully describe what I am needing but I hope that is clear. I am not sure if I need an MRP or an ERP or what I need, I am pretty new to all of these types of software. Or if I even need software, I am open to all suggestions. I have searched and tried a lot of different order management software and nothing seems to do this.

If this needs further explaining just let me know and I will happily explain it further. Thank you all!

I cannot suggest a package for you, but, I can give you some advice.
IF you go with a MRP system you will need several employees to run the system once everyone has had 2-10 weeks of in-depth training.

I suggest looking at MRPEasy ( http://www.mrpeasy.com/ )
It does exactly that - when you register an order for a product from your customer, the program will automatically prepare the purchase orders for necessary parts.
