Question

I need help with ethernet wiring to a telecom panel

Oct 3, 2016 11:53PM PDT

Ok i have an OnQ 1x6 telecom panel it's all punch down blocks for 8 wire. Does this sound electrically correct in my wiring if I punch down 8 wires for the input and plug the other end of that cable into the router for eth1 and then punch down the other 6 blocks to ethernet keystone jacks in each room then plug my ethernet capable devices into the keystone jacks in each room. Or will that cause a short. I keep thinking it will cause a short but my roommate seems to think it will work just fine. I don't care about his laptop blowing out if he's wrong, but I don't want to buy myself a new ps4 if he is.

With an exception of PoE

I've yet to find such to result in blown ports. How to wire up Ethernet is on the web so with my caveat about PoE I think you have all the information you need.

As wiring Ethernet is well done, I didn't duplicate that. I thought it best to skip that as duplication and answer your fears of blowing things up.

Instead I offended you.

Wiring Ethernet takes patience which is short supply today. You may want to print out the usual color scheme for TIA of your choice to have handy. I know I have never committed the colors to memory and I've wired thousands of such connections. I have the 1/4 page printout when I do this and then tape that to the panel I wired for the next tech to use.

Hope you find a solution.
