I am running Windows XP 2ed. and Norton System Works. My cable ISP (Comcast) recently made available the McAfee security suite free to cable subscribers.
(1)I have been using Norton System Works and Sygate Personal Firewall, but my Norton AV subscription was about to expire, so I decided to uninstall it and avail myself of the free service offered by Comcast. I could not uninstall the AV program separately as it is bundled in the System Works suite, and I had trouble uninstalling System Works. However, eventually I found my way to the Norton Removal Tool, and this successfully removed all Norton programs from my computer. I then downloaded and installed the McAfee AV program. (2)Next I wanted to uninstall Sygate Personal Firewall so that I could install the McAfee firewall, but could not do so with either of the standard methods--the Add/Remove utility from the Control Panel, and the Start>Programs>Sygate path. In the Add/Remove Programs utility when I selected Sygate Firewall, there was no Change or Remove button, and following the path through Programs>Sygate, I found no unistall option. I could only assume that the Norton Removal Tool had somehow corrupted a file in the Sygate program so that I could not remove it.
(3)A search for help from Sygate revealed that the company has recently been purchased by Symantec, and the only help available was theirs--except that I have not succeeded in getting a solution to this problem from Symantec.
(4)So here is my question: Is there a way I can uninstall the Sygate Personal Firewall manually and safely?
