I need help. Should I go Pro on Flickr?!

May 27, 2006 7:37PM PDT

Hello nice people,

I created a Flickr account some days ago for all my host pictures on the web needs. But today I decided to include some pics from my last trip and I realized that I can't create more sets (only 3 allowed for non pro members).

The price is not that much, but I have only tryed this website, I have never been in another one like it (like Picasa).

Is Flickr the best one to go? Is the price fair for the service($24,95 per year, wich is like 60 on Brazil)? Does anyone here has a PRO Flickr account and could comment on the good features of it?

Thanks for any help.

I say yes.

I recently purchased a Flickr Pro account and am very happy with it. I didn't want to pay the $25 a month for it, but you do get 2 gigs of data upload per month. You also get unlimited sets, which is very nice when you are organizing your photos. I really like it a lot. As far as Picasa goes, it is only an image organizing & editing tool for Windows & Linux, what I do is edit my pictures using Picasa, export them and then upload them to Flickr.

$25 a month or $25 a year?!
May 28, 2006 1:07AM PDT

You said that it's a monthly fee? Isn't it a year fee?

Thanks for explaining to me what was Picasa, I always thought it was like the a Google version of Flickr, I guess they don't have it.

The community aspect on Flickr is great, that one of the reasons I like it so bad. Happy

I'll count your comment as 2 votes for YES, Wink

Flick Pro

I'm a programmer for the government up here in Canada. So if I find something useful I usually land up buying it, because I know there are people like me behind it, trying to make it work and if I like it, I'll support them.

So I'm a pro member, I use it and if you do too, try it out. Most stuff like this is pretty cheap. You'll rarely use up the 2 gig a month.

P.S. Yahoo Photos

Another service that I use to use was Yahoo! Photos, you can have an unlimited number of albums and I am pretty sure an unlimited amount of photos, its free. But, I really like the community aspect of Flickr.

P.P.S. Stream Limit with Free Account
May 28, 2006 1:08AM PDT

Another reason I upgraded to the Flickr Pro account was so I could show off all of my photos, the free Flickr account only allows you to show off the latest 200 photos in your account.

Sorry for so many P.S.' I keep remembering stuff, lol.

Thanks!

No problem at all man, thanks...

It's good you brought the 200 pics thing up. I have a Blog and I'm using Flickr to host my pictures, I guess I'll have to start using another host if I don't get the PRO version.

I Agree

Andy did a great job of pointing out all the good things about Flickr, so I don't have to. One thing to keep in mind although your photo stream on Flickr is limited to 200 pictures for a free account, the older pictures are still there. You just need to know the actual URL in order to see them.

My self, I don't upload a lot of pictures to Flickr at any one time, but I went ahead and purchased a Pro account. At $24.95/year it is worth it as I add more pictures. Also like Andy, I use Picasa to edit my pictures, export them and then upload them to Flickr.

I also like the different options I have on Flickr to order pictures. While I've only ordered copies of pictures I've uploaded, I like that I can order them in a book, or a calendar. OK, enough rambling, I would have to say that for the price you can't go wrong, even if your a light Flickr user like me.

What you mean order?

I can get real copies of the picture and the calendar? Is it only for USA users?! The copies I can get anywhere her, but the calendar would be nice...

Cheap Prints
May 28, 2006 3:50AM PDT

I've never used Flickr for ordering prints, but I am sure it is a very convenient way to do so, I'm just weird and have to use a million services, lol. I use Winkflash for my prints, they're cheap and reliable. I ordered prints from Yahoo! Photos once and they came back with a red tint, everyone of them. The only thing I don't like about Winkflash is that they use Fuji paper, I prefer Kodak paper. Although the paper they use is supposedly archival quality...I hope it is.

But, if you're not wanting to deal with a bunch of different places. Because you'll have to upload your pictures again, then stick with Flickr and see how they turn out if you order any and if you do order any, just order a few to test them out.

Not Sure if Only for USA
May 28, 2006 12:36PM PDT

I'm not sure if ordering prints from Flickr is only available here in the USA. In addition to ordering prints I can have them bound in a book (kind of a soft cover book where I can choose the cover and the pictures inside) or I can order a calendar with my favorite pictures.

I've only used Flickr once so far to order prints only because I was feeling lazy and didn't want to go got a photo cartridge and paper for my printer. It was actually cheaper to order them from the service Flickr uses, so I might continue to order prints that way (kind of sucks since I have a photo printer sitting here at home).

Ordering prints is available to both free and Pro accounts. I don't think you get any price breaks on prints just for having a Pro account.

Not a bad deal
May 30, 2006 3:55AM PDT

I checked the price to print photos and send it to Brazil, is not that bad. It depends on the amount of pictures you want and the shipping...

I'll try it later. Thanks for all the help guys.
