I need help making sure I can get windows 7....

Aug 1, 2010 3:00AM PDT

on my computer. I have an optiplex sx280 desktop. It currently runs windows XP and is loaded down with junk. Before I get Windows 7 I want to completely wipe my computer of everything and buy the discs to get windows 7. My question is, is my computer capibable of running windows 7. If it is what is the best way of deleting everything off my computer and starting over by downloading windows 7 from a disc.
Can anyone help me please?

Head to dell.com and put in the machines service tag. Are there Windows 7 drivers for your machine at dell?

But it probably will run Windows 7 OK. Just to be sure, do as described in previous posts. If you are in doubt, get a new hard drive, remove the present hard drive to preserve the existing OS, and give Windows 7 a try install. Do not let the OS connect to the internet and see if the setup looks good to you. There is a grace period before the install has to be activated. Of course, you cannot return the Windows 7 after opening, but at least your curiosity will be solved.
