I need help buying a camera

Sep 27, 2011 11:22PM PDT

I am looking into buying a camera for work. We have been using a kodak Zi8 and attached a mic, both of which were borrowed, to do some vox pops for our website. We have AVS video editor which I was editting it on.

I was intending to get this camera, when i found out the line is being discontinued. The initial reasons for using it were the ease with which we could shoot, and then the fact that it just required a usb port to transfer the files.

Given its no longer running, and that my computer doesnt haev a firewire connection, can anyone suggest a camcorder which can easily transfer files onto a PC, and which has a mic input, for £200. My assumption was that we'd need an HDD cam as opposed to a mini-dv one, but I am pretty open to anything if it'll work for us.

works for you, it does not matter that the camera is being discontinued - unless they can no longer be found.

Thanks for that advice. Just checked it out. If we managed to get our budget up to £400 would you recomend anything else?

in the Canon HF R or, preferably, in the HF M line. If memory serves, the HF R series' manual audio gain is very rudimentary (like the ZiCool - but the HF M series has more "granular" control (nearly like the Zoom units). And the HF M series has a larger lens filter diameter than the Zi8 and the Zoom units.
