I need help!

by tjsellers / October 29, 2004 1:55 AM PDT

My computer keeps having a pop-up evertime i log on to internet explorer. It is a search200 bar that pops up at the bottom. Can anyone help me to remove this? I have Norton Internet Security. But it is not removing it, Norton does not even find it during system scan. I have been having so many other pop-ups too. I checked all my settings and I have pop-up blocker enabled. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I would post your question in the Virus and Securities Forum which is here. http://reviews.cnet.com/5204-6132-0.html?forumID=32 Donna, Marianna, Grif or someone will be able to help you. Good luck.

PS: Give them a little more info too such as the forum tip posted here.

Tip: If you are asking for help to troubleshoot a computer-related problem, please be sure to include all the necessary information (ie: operating system, model number, hardware, software, etc) that will help others identify your problem for a speedy resolution.

Pop-ups are a problem to us all. If you are running XP, be sure you download and install SP-2. This service pack mainly addresses security issues. It includes a very effective pop-up blocker and a firewall that performs well. I also suggest to go to C/Net Downloads and get a free spyware detection and removal program. I recommend Lavasoft's Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.05. Ad-Aware should get rid of nuisance malware and spyware that may be infecting your operating system. The SP-2 security measures will help keep your system clean. Be sure you regularly scan your system and keep both Ad-aware and your anti-virus updated regularly (I update mine daily) and run frequent full system scans with both programs.

That is good advice but tjsellers has already been hijacked by the search200 searchbar which is why I directed him/her to the Virus and Security Forum. From what I understand, that is one of the tougher ones to get rid of and there are experts in that forum that have probably already dealt with it.

I recommend SpyBot-Search & Destroy, which can be downloaded on download.com. Free and powerful spyware killer and has a few extra nifty tools in Advanced Mode (save you know what you are doing with them).
