How long after you start the computer does it go into "Sleep Mode"? If it takes a few minutes, have you tried changing the settings by RIGHT clicking on a blank area of the screen, choose "Properties", then choose the "Screen Saver" tab and the "Monitor/Power Management" settings should be at the bottom of the window. Set the "Standby" or "Hibernate" options to "Never".

Will the computer start correctly in "Safe Mode"? Restart the computer, pressing the F8 key once per second, till it loads a selection screen. Use the up and down arrows to select "Safe Mode", press enter, and the computer will load into a safe mode. It looks like a normal screen but with Safe Mode in each of the four corners. When you?re done, restart the machine and it will boot normally.

Have you checked the computer for viruses and spyware? Which programs do you use? Do you have a current antivirus program, and if so, which one?

Hope this helps and let us know more.

The subject title is best crafted so people will look at the subject and think "I know this one." Titles such as "Help", "Error" and the like need a rewrite and don't give any indication of what help a person needs.

As to your machine, some don't know that many new monitors will display a going to sleep message if the computer is nonfunctional. Your post is void of the clues needed to see if your machine has failed.

Do the fans spin, hard disks start up and most importantly does the machine beep on power up. If not, you need to consider how you intend to repair the machine.

Just sharing that my dad's Athlon 1GHz CPU fried because the CPU fan failed and in that machine no thermal shutdown or warning was enabled. The same issue continues with many other Athlon designs so it's up to the owners to check the fans work and the heatsinks are where they belong.
