I need a program that will disconnect my net connection,

Jun 26, 2004 6:18PM PDT

I need a program that will kick me off the net when a incoming phone call is detected.

I have call waiting on the phone....

hope there is such a program....

and no, I cannot use a phone answering software, as the phone line is used by several room mates, and none of them is allowed into my room, let alone touch my computer system.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Such a program comes with the modem. What you want in your new modem is the CALL WAITING feature. Be sure to return a modem as defective if you bought it and it didn't hang up.

well i got the modem is internal it came with the hp pavilion 750c system I have.

I guess I'll go check at hp if that is provided with their modems they instal...

any chance of a software program that does this without the modem having call waiting?

Slim to none. And closer to none.

The trick is partly done via the modem hardware and in the case of softmodems, the "driver" that the modem uses. If your modem doesn't have the call waiting feature, the bitter truth is that you can't add it on.

Here's why. The detection of the call waiting signal must be done at the hardware level on a hardware modem or the driver level of a software modem. Software modem drivers are quite irregular and can't be replaced by any "generic" driver so we are forced to live with the driver as supplied and its capabilities.

The only good news is that dialup modems are under 20 bucks all over if you look. Just get the call-waiting feature.
