Resolved Question

I need a new MB, help?

Jul 3, 2017 11:33AM PDT

Ok so my mb is a Asus p7p55d but I need an upgrade since its getting a little old and doesn't support ddr4, what mb would you recommend I get that isn't too expensive and that lets me fit 16gb ddr4 and 2 gpu's. On thinking in the 100$-150$ range.

forget the price range

If running the operating system that came with your computer or upgraded from it, you better include the price of a new operating system if you upgrade the motherboard. that will add another 100 bucks or so. IMO, stick with what you have until you get a new computer.

Don't go there

That can open up a can of worms.

Dual gpu's can be a headache.

If you need more video power get a better gpu.

If you need more ram fit it to the mobo you have.

Keep things simple.

Mobo

If you upgrade the mobo your looking at.
New cpu.
New ram.
And possibly a new os.

So factor in the price of all that.

Mobo
Jul 4, 2017 4:49AM PDT

The first thing you need to do is pick a cpu.

Intel......skylake or kabylake.

Amd......Ryzen.

Then you shop for a mobo that supports your cpu pick and has the features you want.

If your case dates from 2009 you can add a new case to the mix.

See where this is going?
With the exception of a few parts you can migrate from old to new your looking at building a new machine, it's going to get expensive.

I have a good cpu

I have both a really good cpu and gpu, i have my dads old i7, can't remember exactly but it's not so old and my gpu is a 480nitro+, but I need better ram because I keep getting crashes in big games because I only have 8gb of ddr3, and in most likely upgrading to Windows 10 soon anyways

I usually trace crashes to
Jul 5, 2017 12:53PM PDT

Old boards (the CAPS wear out), old PSUs and then drivers and malware.

It's been the under 1 percent of the time new RAM fixes that issue.

Games crash and freezez

I know it's because of the memory loss, so now I'm confident in going to get a new mobo, can anyone give me a tip of a good movie that's not too expensive?

Cpu
Jul 5, 2017 7:02PM PDT

You need a make and model of the cpu your going to use.
You can't put any cpu on any mobo.
It might not support ddr 4 ram.

Re: new motherboard

Apart from a new motherboard you probably need a new CPU and new RAM and maybe (if you don't have one and choose a motherboard without it) a new graphic card. And a new license for Windows, unless you have linked your free upgrade to Windows 10 to your Microsoft account.
