I need a new case for my Dell PC!....... Not sure it'll fit?

Apr 20, 2005 5:57AM PDT

I have a Dell PC (oldish) and it's in a desktop form.

Pentium III 500MHz
80 GB HDD
256 RAM

The computer is a Dell Optiplex GX1

The case it's self is in a desktop form.

Now I've had it, with my old case and need a new one...... I read an artice in a mag and they get an old pop it in a new case....... my problems is, where I have my PCI/ISA slots there on a detactable bay that clips into the motherboard........ I'm sure loads of computers do they.... right?

I was thinking about:

I don't need anything nice.... as long as it will fit in....... I hope.

NEW CASE!!

No, it will most likly NOT fit!!!!
Most PCs do not have riser cards that yours has.
Dell uses their own case layout!!! Not a standard ATX.
Any case that you would buy would be a ATX standard case.
Since you have looked inside your Dell go to a PC store where they have cases a look at them you will find a BIG difference.
There is a bible verse that says " don't put new wine in old wine skins" I feel that this also applies to PCs.
It is time to start saving for a new PC. John

I've done a lot of work on computers. And cases are do change, I'm sure if you bay any case it will fit bacause all cases have movable supports witch you need. Go out and bay a case.

you guys don't know your stuff about old Dells

you are better off buying a ATX form factor MB new or used to use your cpu and memory, this dell is uses a different formfactor motherboard and since it so old that no one makes these cases anymore, thats why old dell are junk to upgrade since they used a different form factor motherboards and are limited to upgrade beyond the norm, the highest CPU slot1 is 500mhz
