You found the two obvious replacements for the SD700.
(SD780 and SD1200)
You are not going to find a camera with better performance than the SD780.
Here is a link to the summary page of a full review of the SD780:

The 5th paragraph has the performance information.

Hi all.
I currently have an SD700 IS (I know, old school right.) Honestly I don't want to retire it since I couldn't be happier but I have no choice since it's showing signs of age. So I'm trying to find its successor. Research shows that that would be the SD850 but that's discontinued. Any idea what would be next after that? Or at least the most current version of the SD700.
I'm your regular, plane jane user but the main things I care highly about:
1) Shooting Speed (it needs to be FAST as my 700 is a speed demon)
2) Viewfinder (as in I want one..preferably)
3) 4x Optical Zoom (ideally no less since the SD700 is at 4x)
4) Manual mode (though it doesn't have to be too manual) and scenes (which I think are standard in the powershot series)
Basically I want to get as close to my SD700 as possible. I'm biased for the Powershot Series.
The SD780 & SD1200 that's currently out now seem to have stellar reviews. My problem is neither fared well in Shooting Speed and FPS per the CNET reviews (compared to the 700). Any suggestions, thoughts?
Thanks so much.
