It sounds as if the artwork is too small in comparison to the space your are photographing.
1.
You could take two photos, One of the artwork from a distance and another close-up.
Display the two photos side by side.
If you are closer than two feet from the artwork, you will have to switch the camera to Macro Mode before taking the close-up.
2.
You could also take the overall shot and then crop the artwork using software such as Irfanview.
Again, display the overall shot and the photo of the expanded cropped artwork side by side.
Any digital camera could be used to do either of the above methods.

I make small pieces of art and hang them out in town or in the woods ( in trees, on benches on the sides of buildings). I need a camera that is easy to carry along and photograph the art and the environment it is in. Right now with my old cannon something or other I really just get pictures of the whole scene but you cant really see the art clearly. Any ideas for how to make this work better. Im planning on getting a new camera for this.
