is this the greatest play ever made?

it needs a media player, i found it easiest to past mms://a1503.v108692.c10869.g.vm.akamaistream.net/7/1503/10869/v0001/mlb.download.akamai.com/10869/library/open/features/monday_flag_350.wmv?media_type=wms&av_type=video&event_pk=486348&product=gen_video into the open file box using Media Player Classic....

I'm a bit surprised by the year. Thought that stuff was no longer fashionable by then.

The video petered out at the halfway point, but that was enough.

Great save, Rick!

Technically it wasn't a play at all...

...since it involved something apart from the game being played.

IMO the greatest play I've ever seen was Derek Jeter's relay of an errant throw from right fielder Shane Spencer in the 2001 playoffs against the Oakland A's. He tried to downplay it later, claiming that the play is one that the team practiced regularly. When Jason Giambi (who had been on that 2001 A's team) signed with the Yankees that winter, on his first day of spring training he went up to Jeter and joked, "I can't wait to watch you guys practice that play!"

when Dave Roberts stole second in the 9th, Game 4 of the "04" ALCS. Not sure what your greatest play was Jonah. Have the same trouble as Dragon with buffering.

Roberts did not play in the World Series, but it was his stolen base in the ninth inning of Game 4 in the ALCS that began the comeback against New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera.

With the Red Sox facing a sweep, Roberts pinch ran after Rivera walked Kevin Millar to lead off the ninth. After some pickoff throws, Roberts stole second and scored the tying run on Bill Mueller's single.

The Red Sox won that game and three more to eliminate the Yankees, then swept the St. Louis Cardinals for to win their first World Series since 1918.

"As far as we're concerned, [it was] one of the biggest stolen bases in baseball history," Boston general manager Theo Epstein said. "We went from potentially getting swept to winning the World Series for the first time in 86 years.

Roberts hadn't played in 10 days before the stolen base.

"When everyone in the ballpark knows you're going to steal against Rivera, it's pretty tough," he said.

Mariano Rivera....

....is easier to steal on than many. His pickoff motion isn't the best, probably because he's so unaccustomed to anyone ever getting on base. Wink
