I'm looking for a good smartphone with a slide-out keyboard

by benface / October 2, 2010 12:40 AM PDT

I really don't know how to search for this, CNET's cellphone finder is very limited. I am looking for a smartphone comparable to the iPhone 4 and the HTC Evo 4G, but with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Does that even exist? I live in Canada and am with Fido, so it'll probably have to be unlocked. Thank you!

It would have been quicker

It would have been quicker to tell us what sort of service Fido is. I'll guess that few of people here are Canadians, and even fewer have any idea of what sort of service (CDMA or GSM, for example) Fido is. An iPhone is on AT&T, which is GSM. The HTC Evo is on Sprint's CDMA network.

I looked at the Fido website,, and figured out that Fido is GSM.

I have the Palm Pre and the Samsung Epic, both of which have a slide-out keyboard (the Epic has a great keyboard), but both are on Sprint, which is CDMA, and of no use to you.

You may want to search out GSM smartphones with a physical, slide-out, Qwerty keyboard.
There are some good review and comparison websites to be found if you use Google wisely.

Thank you. Yeah I don't know the difference between CDMA and GSM, thanks for letting me know. I will try again with Google but my first searches were unsuccessful.

It's a Canadian based forum with plenty of folks who can help you find an unlocked Fido compatible GSM handset.
