I'm having a mouse problem in a new machine with W2K Pro OS..

by jldipert / April 6, 2004 9:27 AM PDT

A friend asked me to come over and take a look at his mouse malfunctioning in W2K Pro. The problem is like this - if you want to move a number of files into a folder by left clicking on the first and shift clicking on the last file you want to move the column jumps one column to the right when you do the shift click or CTRL click. I've tried 2 different mice with the same results and took the mice to another computer and they worked fine.

He has just installed W2K Pro on this machine and it has done it since the install. Everything else seems to be functioning properly. Even the mouse works properly as far as movement goes and the button functions. This is a fresh install of W2K on a new Machine. I've never seen this problem so I don't know where to start. Any advise sure would be appreciated. Jim D.

Most mice come with drivers, most people don't load them relying on the basic windows driver. Consider loading the driver that came with the mouse unless you are sure the other machines you tested are also using the basic windows driver. There also tweaks and settings under the device manager.
