General discussion

I'm debating on two Samsung HDTV's and I need your help.

Before i actually list the tv's im looking for a tv mainly for gaming and as a computer monitor (dvi to hdmi set up). So ghosting and lag would be an issue. And i'd love a rich color. So if you have another type to recommend its cool.

So the two im debating on are either the UN40B7000 40" 1080p LED HDTV or the Samsung LN40A750 40-Inch 1080p.

One is a LED and the other is LCD.

btw is the A750 240 or 120 Hz?

I'm on a budget but these two seem to fit in it. Being a college student obviously cheaper is better but i hate sacrificing performance and quality.

I appreciate your help guys since this is my first post on Cnet =P

nvm bout the A750 being 120 or 240 Hz

I made a typo. I meant to say i plan purchasing the SAmsung LN40B750 instead of the A version.

I'd still appreciate your opinions though im choices. or if u have a better tv in mind

for a conventional LCD, it's one of the best we've tested.

"The Samsung LNB750 series can't beat the picture quality of the best plasmas and LED-based LCDs, but for a conventional LCD, it's one of the best we've tested."

I agree here. Look at another angle here and POWER CONSUMPTION from the LCD to the LED LCD model. You get what looks to be a better, longer life LED lighting plus lower energy use.

As to the Hz, if the seller won't discuss it, don't buy from them.

LED better then LCD?

so LED tv's have a better life span then LCD?

if thats the case what LED tv would you recommend for me then

preferably something a very low response time, and 120Hz would just be a bonus but most LED's have it i think.

i just need a tv as a computer monitor, movies, and gaming. And occasional tv watching i guess

clarification for you

LED/LCD TV's are NOT LED TV's! Only the backlight is. It's so funny, well not really actually. LCD manufacturers are all about the hype, over spec'ing, catch phrases (like 120/240, etc), and about taking advantage of general consumers' fears.

Nothing can beat the motion ability of a plasma. LCD technology is still a mechanical event. In a plasma, the speed is limited only by how fast gas can be excited by an electrical current, and that's super darn fast.

I understand you want to use this as a computer monitor, and so I don't know for how long you'll leave static images, but even if for gaming, I can never personally recommend an LCD tv in good conscience.

That's just me, and I've never owned either a plasma or LCD, and use a PJ as my only display.

no thank you to plasma

i kno plasma's are the best in imaging display and are practically perfect

but burning will be an issue for me and i know if i ever had a burnt image on my tv id be very upset. so knowing that LCD's arent perfect thats fine.

I'm just wondering what would be a better investment in LCD tv. LED lit or CCFL lit. Idc really. Just the price and performance.

If you can afford

either the UNB7000 or LNB750, there's not enough PQ difference I can see to pick from. However, the UNB and its LED siblings haven't been on the market long enough to show their overall durability although LEDs in practise last longer than CCFLs. Unless abused, either should outlive graduation day.
