I keep plugging my ipod touch in am I damaging the battery?

I am always plugging my ipod in whether it be plugging it into my portable
speaker to listen to my tunes at work. Or plugging it into my outlet at home. My question is : Am I destroying my battery by constantly plugging it in? I have a 1st Generation Touch. And it is a 32 GB.

Apple still advises that you run the battery down once a month and recharge it.
