I keep getting Pop/Occidental malware infections

by Nighttraveler2 / October 14, 2013 7:27 AM PDT

I have Malwarebytes malware protection but I keep getting infected with Pop/Occidental. Today I had 84 of them. Is there a malware protection that can block malware before it gets into your computer?

Run a scan with AdwCleaner.

Very easy to use as you can read in the linked page.

I would suggest ... what Blue_Zee suggested. Grin

If AdwCleaner fails to help, I would then request .....

You provide more details. For example, you say you had '84 of them'. Are you referring to pop-ups? If so, perhaps you might describe them for us.

Adblock Plus blocks pop-ups (and more) but without further details we won't know if it's going to solve your immediate problems.

Help us .. help you.

I'm not getting pop-ups. When I run Malwarebytes it is showing that I'm getting the malware called POP/OCCIDENTAL.

'Is there a malware protection that can block malware before it gets into your computer?'

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) does an excellent job with what it's designed to do.

You say you keep getting infected with "Pop/Occidental". I'm unfamiliar with this named malware. Could it be a PUP (instead of POP?) you installed? It might help to identify it.

After running MBAM (with entries checked) did you reboot the system?

Kindly update MBAM and run another scan. Post a copy of the log it generates.

Are you experiencing any problems otherwise?

Carol
