I keep getting a Pop Up saying "Windows Security Alert"

Aug 13, 2010 8:01PM PDT

whenever I try to do anything. It then loads a page asking me to buy some software to download to solve the problem. If I try to open my Avira Anti Virus software it is blocked and the same message pops up. If I try to open my browser it says something like "Internet Explorer page not found. Security alert" even when I open Firefox! The same is true of most other programs I try to run.

However the problem only occurs on my Administrator profile.

On my personalised profile, I have no problems - yet!

My Administrator profile had no password.

Anyway I ran the Avira AntiVirus from my personalised profile but it has not managed to resolve the problem in my Administrator profile.

There is a thread on the Windows XP forum which deals with a similar problem (http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6142_102-0.html?threadID=262952&start=60&tag=forum-w;forums06)and it has very helpful suggestions but most of them involve downloading anti virus software and I can't download anything on my Administrator profile.

If I download something on my personalised profile will i be able to use this to solve the problem on my Administrator profile?

Many thanks

Malwarebyte's Anti-malware did the job for me.

I used Malwarebyte's Anti-malware in the end - and I must say it did a very good job - highly recommended! Happy
