I hear a humming coming from my surround speakers!!!!

by jamesd553 / October 17, 2006 5:36 AM PDT

I just got the the new Directv HD dvr HR20 and am running it through my Denon 3805 AV reciever. I never heard the humming when I only had a HD Box but since they had to run an extra line to the dish I now hear a humming coming from my speakers. I dont hear the humming on DVD's or my PS2.

I tried to isolate the humming and it seems to turn on as soon as I connect the component video cables to the back of the dvr. Specifically the green one. And it also starts when I connect the lines from the dish to the back of the dvr.

Its pretty annoying and is always there.

How is the HR20 connected to your AV reciver? HDMI or component and seprate audio feed?
Is the hum only comming from the surronds and not the mains? John

avoid running power and other component cables in parallel. Run them as far apart as possible, and at 90 degree angles.

The hum gets louder when some other appliances are on in the house... i.e. microwave oven, garage door etc..

thanks for the help.

If you are getting more of a sound with appliances running then you probably have a problem with dirty power. this can be cleaned up with a power center. montser hts 3600 and up or the panamax max5100 and up. these will eliminate any dirty power coming through the wall outlet and give you better picture and sound in the other components.
