Vista is better.

How can vista be outdated like ME? Vista is the newest edition.

Microsoft has learned from its previous mistakes and will not release new OS with a whim. They put a lot of thought into Vista.

Vista is definitely better than Me edition. In every turn it is better. Your question sounds like you are deciding on upgrading to Vista. For that, you should consider your level of learning, use, and cost.

If you are willing to adopt a new OS and have time for it, definitely upgrade. With Vista, most likely you will need to upgrade your hardware as well.

Consider what you use the computer for. Vista has a lot of nice things that would be most useful for people traveling or business type. I can see that the Aero feature is geared towards hip people. If you are a practical person, you probably wouldnt want to upgrade to vista. Besides security and a little here and there, you won't see the benefit in upgrading to vista.

If you are purchasing a new system, by all means get vista. its best to get the latest technology when you are paying for it. Who wants to buy a new computer that is outdated?

Re: updating

It's very, very likely that your current PC (that has ME) won't be able to run Vista. So there's no question at all about upgrading. Don't do it!

If you buy a new PC to replace the old one (because it's broken and can't be fixed, or because you want to run programs that don't run on Windows ME, or because you want some things going a little bit faster than they go now, or whatever valid reason you can think of) you can choose between Vista (easy to find) and XP (more difficult to find). If everything you have (like printer and programs) runs on Vista, it's certainly worth the thought. But for me there's nothing wrong with buying XP either. It will be supported for at least 5 years.

Wrong question.

The questions should be: "Can I update (is my machine powerful enough for any of these 2 OS'es)" and "If possible, should I update or not."

You don't tell about the first question, and you don't give any clues to answer the second question. Unless, of course, your primary reason is to spend part of the $1100 Bush gives away to all American families on an upgrade version of Windows, to help the economy in general and Microsoft in particular.

There isn't a free offer...

That was a sarcastic reply directed at getting you to identify the reasoning behind your desire to upgrade. As Kees said, though, any Windows ME computer is highly unlikely to be powerful enough to run Vista. Thus, if you have a specific reason to upgrade your choices are Windows XP or buying a new computer with Vista already on it.

It's worse than that.

ALL computers from the days when Windows ME was offered are not ones you should attempt to run Vista.

I'm going to pan this move as "a bad idea."
