General discussion

I have some questions about Apple?

Oct 19, 2005 12:04PM PDT

I am currently looking for a new laptop, I am interested in Apple's laptops because I love the design the exterior, but I also want a computer that has great high performance. I like to have games apart of the agenda as well. I am not a stone cold gamer, but I do buy some ever now and then. My questions are as follow: Are Apple laptops good for games? Are Apple laptops good for entertainment? Is the Mac operating system or whatever that is new out on the Apple laptops are they user friendly? Would you suggest someone with no prior experience with the Apple laptop or its operating system? When compared to Windows and other top name brand computers which one would you suggest for a new laptop. I am looking for something that is light weight though and high in performance and features. I would really appreciate any suggestions. Thank You

They are good for the games that are written for the Mac.
Yes for entertainment. However you describe that.
The Mac OS, or whatever, is very user friendly. The newest OS for the Mac is called the Mac OS, probably always will be
Yes, they are user friendly
Yes.
Windows does not make computers or laptops. I would not suggest any windows computer or laptop
Go with the iBook for light weight and high performance. A balance of the two

Thank you so much for responding to my questions. I have few more to ask if thats ok. I didn't mean windows laptops but I meant microsoft PC's are they more user-friendly than Apple's laptops with the Mac-OS program? Also as far as entertainment I'm looking for a DVD player and DVD maker and CD player and CD maker. Surfing the net, listening to music, and creating my own movies. This laptop will primarily be at my home, but I want it to be light enough and entertaining to take to school or on vacations or flights. Are Apple laptops good for this kind of tech? Is the wireless tech good for this laptop? I know Apple laptops are more expensive but I don't mind paying for quality. If Apple laptops are of quality and high performance not only for what the regular PC does but also above and beyond I will buy one. I love the design though, its like one of the best besides some Dell's and Sony's

Microsoft does not make PC's either.
In my opinion, the Mac OS is more user friendly that XP. It is really all about personal opinion. iBooks are available with SuperDrives, CD Burner/DVD Burner, and the software, iLife, to make/burn all your entertainment needs. Check out iPhoto, iDVD, iMovie and, you must have heard of, iTunes.
Yes, wireless tech is good.
Surely you jest about the Dell's and Sony.

Have you been to the Apple Store on-line and looked at any of these machines and their specs?

I have looked on Apple's website and at some of the programs you listed. They all sound great but they sound like its more of creative. I'm looking for that and also a notebook that is great for entertainment as far as games go. I have never used any of those programs you mentioned. iTunes seems like it would be very interesting. What about the Powerbooks are they light and high in performance. Also I have heard from others that most programs like games and free stuff to download online like realplayer and etc are only use Microsoft Windows systems. What does apple use for watching videos online? Do they use realplayer? Does Apple provide a variety of games for their computers? Are these games easily accesible? (For example, I can go into the local Walmart and find games at a good price for my XP. Does this accesiblity apply to Mac 0S? Also what is the Tiger thing? Sorry for all of the questions I'm just new at this whole thing and I want to make a good purchase. I would appreciate any information you might have. Thanks

Why

are you expecting someone else to be doing all your research for you? After a visit to the Apple Store you will already be aware of the weight of an iBook and PowerBook.
Unless you have been hiding in a cave somewhere, you should have at least heard of iTunes. It runs on Windows as well as the Mac. The reason that you have not used any of the other programs is that they are only available for the Mac.
A visit to the RealPlayer website will point you at the Mac version, does QuickTime ring a bell anywhere. It runs on Windows and Mac and is used, sometimes to view streaming video. Apple provides NO games for the Mac. This is left to third party developers. Check out the Apple web site for Games for OS X. Go back to the Apple store and find out "what is the Tiger thing?" While you were in your local Walmart, did you see any games for the Mac? There, you answered one question.

The Apple website has 99% of the answers to your questions, I'll be glad to answer any that are not covered there or that you feel were not explained enough.

every thing but the games
Oct 20, 2005 1:52PM PDT

If your priorities are playing games then you want a PC desktop... If you want mobility, power in a small package, almost everything to do everyday activities and a machine that will play the most popular games because they were ported over to mac then get an iBook or Powerbook.

Thanks for your post that really sums it up, all the information I need. I am not a hardcore gamer though I just wanted something that would provide quality game playing experience if I decided to play games on it every now and then. But I think I might pass on the Apple and maybe venture to see what else is out there. I'm not saying necessarily I am wiping it off my list of laptops. I probably wait this coming up year after researching other products before I make my final purchase. Thank you though for all of your help I just wanted to know how someone feels about the Apple laptops who has had one in the past before.
