General discussion

I have snow! I have snow! ;-)

Dec 13, 2003 11:39PM PST

No not at my house. On the SE Christmas Tree here:

Snowing on the tree

You may have to hit refresh or reload a couple of times, especially if you had already opened this site, in order to remove the old copy from the cache. The snow does not display correctly in Opera 6 but appears to do well in all other browsers.

If anyone notices any names missing please let me know and I will add them to the tree.

Hi, Rosalie.

That's a matter of opinion -- if you've ever shoveled snow, or tried to drive in it, it soon loses its appeal!
Great addition to the tree, BTW!

Hi,

You might want to play with this little applet which should work on Opera too.

Here is a link to it (just put it in the same directory as the page you use it on)java applet alcsnow.class )as always, if you download it be sure to scan it BEFORE attempting to use it!

and below is the code necessary to use it. Adjust alignment, width, height, and values as you wish (experiment for best effect)

<applet code="alcsnow.class" align="baseline" width="421" height="283">
<param name="grph" value="../location/of_picture.jpg">
<param name="snows" value="700">
<param name="threadsleep" value="70">
</applet>

Have fun, and you might even want to look at snowmans.pps - a 384K powerpoint slide show sent to me a few years back featuring Calvin & Hobbs.

(NT) I remember seeing hardcopy of those at work once, good stuff.

Try just placing the jpg in the same directory as the applet and html page. (In case that was confusing (kind of was to me after reading it), put all three files in the same directory)

Take a look at this page and play around with it if you like.

http://www.oldsmokie2.com/main/sleighride.html
Files used are:
sleighride.html
starback.gif
sleigh.jpg
xmas.mid
and of course alcsnow.class

Higher value on sleep speeds up snow (try 10 for some interesting flurries)

Thanks, Ed, I have it figured out.

Thanks for including me in your tree, even tho I don't post here very often.
Plus thanks for adding the snow. Followed the link listed in your source code, and got the script for my site. Actually used the "other" snow script
listed there, since it was a bit smaller, and required no graphics. Worked out real well.
So you keep finding them, and I'll keep sponging off you. LOL
Wishing you a very Happy Holiday season Happy

Be my guest, Ray. I got the background for the first page from Wayne Hardy so ...

I have been doing some sponging also. And Blake cleaned up and corrected my code, it was pretty much of a mess. I get and take help from many sources. LOL

Someone just sent me this link, it's a GREAT place! I plan to spend most of tomorrow there.

19.3 inches!?! That boggles my mind. The most I have even seen was 4 or 5 inches.

Dec 15, 2003 9:52PM PST

... this last bunch turned to rain. I did have to shovel about 6" so my hubby could get into the driveway, and needed to shovel about an inch more by the time I got to the driveway's edge. Good thing cuz it then rained all night, where I shoveled was black/clear, but there was a horrific slush/ice/snow mix in the areas I didn't get to!

but not as much as the east coast. We've had it really mild here so far, including rain and sleet/freezing rain over the last couple of weeks.

Thanks for the page, Rosalie.
