I have lost the ability to go back or restore to an earlier

by leon0junk / August 30, 2008 1:17 PM PDT

date. Is there a program that will inspect the registry and repair problems using the files that are located on the hard drive?

I understand that I can reinstall windows XP, but will lose all my programs, not data. I don't want to look up all those programs and have to reinstall them.

I have a Gateway 5310S 54.10001.031, 2.93 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4, Windows XP home edition with service pack 3.

Any help will be appreciated.

I've yet to find a software that would repair system restore to the point that old restore points would work. I do know that Norton can interfere with SR. Here's a note about that -> http://www.google.com/search?q=2005113009323013 (click cancel if it tries to print and you don't want to.)

There are other products that interfere with SR so be sure to check yours.
