Question

I have fairly simple back-up questions

Jul 15, 2011 7:05AM PDT

I want to restore my laptop to its condition when it was new. It was faster ans smoother back then. I figured that if i can use my backup disks its prompted me to create when i first turned it on, I can make it like new. But I have many things that on this 250gb laptop that I do and don't know of that I want, and I have a 1 TB external hard drive. how can I COMPLETELY back up all my files, programs, and junk onto my external hard drive so I can safely just restore my computer and pop in the disks? AND will restoring it like this help my games and programs run better like they used to?

Today's apps are not made to allow such backups. Let's say no to programs.

Files= YES.

Ok so programs might be out but what about saved firefox e-mails and passwords and settings and stuff like that? Would I be able to save that? Also, I hear restoring my computer might not help its speed. Is this true?

And what apps would do it all very well?

If there is a fault or shortcoming in Windows it's this. No one has come close to Apple's install the os and save my files feature.

You can read about that at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710

Microsoft has not gotten the message on this.
