Red Hat has a knowledge base that you need to see if it's noted.

hi,
Apr 19, 2005 3:12PM PDT

i didn't get u......do u think that this problem wont occur if i use, say, redhat linux 8,7 or earlier versions? or is it that redhat linux 9 simply does not detect ntfs part. many of my friends have told me that redhat linux 9 has had some problems with it...and that it is not as stable as the earlier versions, is it true??

Fix it.

Red Hat 9 can mount all NTFS partitions that I have ever seen just fine.... it is just that Red Hat did not include a pre-built kernel module for doing this. red Hat did not include the module because of sound legal reasons.

You have three options with RH9:

1. Rebuild your kernel and include the NTFS module. Fairly simple but a hassle none-the-less.

2. Just build the module. I am not sure how to do this though.

3. Download the pre-built module for your kernel version and install it. This is the simplest option.

You can get the NTFS kernel module RPM for your kernel at:
http://linux-ntfs.sourceforge.net/rpm/redhat9.html

Please follow the instructions linked at the top of the page.

Yeah I remember awhile back linux was able to read the older version of ntfs but not the newer version that xp use. But I really have not pay much attention to it much lately because I don't have XP.
