Moisab,

Just some questions that need answering....

Did the Windows XP machine EVER connect to the internet correctly? If so, what did you change?

Do both computers connect to the internet through a router, or are they completely separate?

Do you have a firewall installed,(Windows XP already has a firewall) and have you tried disabling it/them?

CLICK HERE To Learn "How To Use the Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall"

Have you checked to make sure that the dial-up settings are the same on both computers?

Hope this helps and let us know.

Grif

1. Open a command window, and type
ping reviews.cnet.com (end with enter)
and then
ping 206.16.0.180
This is kind of test of the connection. Compare with the machine where you post this on. Post back your results.

2. Does the same condition occur indepently on two PC's, one with 98 and one with XP pro? That's hard to believe.

3. Please quote the full and exact text of the error message in mozilla and netscape (without any typo!)

4. Does e-mail work?

5. What changed since it last worked? Any recent history of viruses?

6. Free of viruses and spyware? Done all 5 of Bob Proffits Anti Parasite Suite (see Viruses and Security Forum)? OK, the webbased Housecall won't work, but you can download the 4 other tools on another PC.

7. What did the ISP's helpdesk say when you phoned them and they let you investigate things?

8. No errors in modemlog? Sure there is a connection?

9. Firewall installed?

Just to get a better picture of the situation, all of this.
