Dec 10, 2003 7:54AM PST

I have a virus called Trojan horse downloader winfavorit.A, It also came up a Trojan horse adclicker.A. My AVG 6 said it was in my c:\ program files\syslaunch.exe. Now how do I get rid of it? I've try Sysmantec and house call but no help. Hoping you can help.

What is the exact error message when the AV scanners try to remove it? If it is something due to file in use, try booting in safe mode before running the scan with AVG.

If Operating System has System Restore feature...

try this. First disable system restore then run Ad-aware and Spybot S&D... then enable system restore again.

Sometimes System Restore captures such malware that cannot be removed with these tools. Disabling System Restore automatically deletes the culprits and then you can clean the rest of your system.

If it is now in System Restore, I'm not sure if AdWare or Spybot will go there. OS version would be nice to know about now. For WinME, you could use a boot disk and then delete the file (that would work outside of System Restore too).

Boot using your Windows ME startup diskette, select Minimal and use DEL command.

A:\>DEL C:\_Restore\Temp\ and add the name(s) of the file(s) in question.
e.g. del C:\_Restore\Temp\ABC123.CPY
or
del "c:\ program files\syslaunch.exe"

Remove the diskette, reboot and you're done.
