I have a problem with linix ubunto

Hello,
I have Linux ubunto and I installed it to my dell system. The problem is that the screen has a flashing block on where ever i clicked last.
Also, I tried to connect to my HDTV but after the log in screen I get a bunch of vertical colored lines unless I boot the computer from my monitor then switch it to my HDTV then it works fine. Is it a driver problem or what? Please help!!!!

My system is:
Dell OptiPlex GX110
667MHz
256MB RAM
160GB Hard Drive
I had ME on it then I upgraded to XP and now i wanted to have Linux on it.
I tried to find drivers for it but it is in the windows format.

Try another distro or try another video card.
