Resolved Question

I have a gateway laptop and the fan runs but no display.

May 2, 2015 5:48AM PDT

The model is NV52, windows vista. I had it for about 5years now. When i power it up, i hear the fan but the screen doesn't respond. There have been a few occasions that the screen would come up, but on stormy nights, i would power it down, then i have the problem again. Also when I have to do updates through Norton, it will do a restart, except it never comes back. Any advice besides getting a new computer of taking it to a technician. Of course the warranty is out, so not an option. I want to use all possible diy solutions before i go the monetary route!
Thank you in advance.

Remember there are some 1000+ NV52 posts now.

Try the usual new CMOS battery then call it dead.

Reading up on it says time to move on. I'd still try the cheap fixes first though.

The NV52s I've run into were clasic Turion X2 models.

Too similar to the HP DV6000/9000 models that caused a class action suit. There are many dead NV52 boards out there.

But hey, sure, try. Just don't over invest in this one.

I saw, thanks for the link. Glad i backed up everything the last time it came up. Time to say goodbye, but for kicks, i will enjoy taking it apart. Always wondered what these bad boys looked like on the inside.

Remove the HDD and put it in some 20 buck USB case. Then sell the remaining carcass on ebay as-is. There are plenty of folk that think they can fix it.

I sure haven't. I probably should've mentioned in the beginning that i am not tech savvy in regards to the interior but thanks for responding.

yes the fixes offered are cheap, but for $20+ dollars, worth a try.
