But longer distance wifi is something I find I must add in with some USB device. Good luck in your search.

I'm in the market for a new laptop but need an assist. I have typically bought dell products exclusively in the past, but I'm hesitant this go around because I've heard and read bad things about the wifi network cards that come with their current xps systems. Looking for a few pro tips to narrow down my options for purchase. I'm active duty military heading to Europe for a 2 year assignment followed by a year of in residence school for a masters program -- this machine is going to be my primary professional and personal work station for the next three years so I don't mind spending for a nice build -- don't want the thing to be totally obsolete in 3 years.... here's what I have to have:
Prefer 15" but will consider 17" screen
Intel core i7
Reliable Dual band network card with Bluetooth
Bluray/dvdr optical drive
Full 1080p HD
500GB or more SSD
8 GB or more RAM
Not picky on graphics card as I'm not a gamer but will be using for multimedia and video editing
I prefer buying from a company that offers a protection/support plan because I will be overseas. I would buy a fully loaded xps15 if I didn't absolutely need a reliable network card that can catch a signal over long distances in a variety of environments since I will be travelling extensively in Europe for the next 2 years. I've heard asus might be a good alternative but im totally open to build suggestions. Looking to spend around $2K. Thanks in advance!
