I Hate Windows Vista

Feb 8, 2008 12:58PM PST

My wife has a Inspiron 1501 with Windows Vista basic, Mobile AMD Sempron processor 3500+ 1.80ghz, 2gb ram, 32 bit. It runs incredibly slow. I just got a new HP with 2gb ram and an AMD processor and it runs circles around this thing. The windows experience index rates the Desktop performance for windows aero at 2.4. Any ideas on how to get the thing going any faster? Ive even tried dell tech support and they made it worse.

I'd return it.

I've found that the basic Vista machine is best with 2GB RAM (check) and any dual core CPU (one short.) For gamers, we have to get the baddest graphics that empties the wallet.

i think you need to get another gig of ram or maybe you need to upgrade the graphic card..the graphic card contribute much in vista graphic performance

When I had to go to Vista,...

...because my old Windows XP machine died, I got one with an AMD Athlon 64 dual core proc and 3 gigs of RAM. I've noticed that some routines run slightly slower than they did under XP, but the difference isn't so great as to constitute an annoyance.

vista basic

vista basic doesn't come with aero. try a better anti virus which excludes macaffe, norton, etc. check your start up programs. it could be a lot of user applied problems. i have the exact same notebook, but i'm not a fan of vista basic. runs too much like the old outdated os xp. but once you figure vista out, you'll never use xp again.

For a desktop you can look into purchasing a true graphics card, an option that doesn't exist with laptops.
