Trump yard signs being vandalized or stolen

In reply to: I guess they want a war.

Even CNN is reporting this. In my own area, I'd say the Clinton/Kaine signs outnumber Trump/Pence by at least 5 to 1 and even in the more affluent neighborhoods. One would think Trump had almost no one in his court or few willing to say so. Personally, I don't care for yard and road sign litter of this type. I would never allow such in mine and I don't like it when my neighbors do this either. This seems to invite vandals. I don't want them here regardless of whom they favor.

Which group is the "garbage"?

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder?

Everything to do with criminal attitude and behaviour.

In reply to: It has nothing to do with personal appearance

I don't like TheRUMPs attitude, behaviour........

Other than that he's a beautiful human being...

Some want to be able to walk down the street and not have to see his name...

You know, like you don't want to have to look at anyone that is gay. Ship them all off to a northern location.

You could be more like the protestors than you want to think?

Recall the guy being escorted out of a RUMP rally( months ago)...a RUMP supporter sucker punched him.

and not get shot by an illegal from a sanctuary city or some want to shop in a mall or party in a bar and not get killed by radical islam supporters or some want to work in a convenient store and not be shot in the face by an illegal immigrant because he didn't get his pack of smokes fast enough and the list goes on...............

He ALSO said in the same sentence that

In reply to: RE: Some want to walk down the street

"some are good people"........that STILL doesn't mean they BELONG here and shouldn't be sent back since they got here ILLEGALLY. You have to admit at least that Mexico DOESN'T send us the best of their people, do they?

And quite a few of the ones that DO come here, literally take over our flag representation and our basic English language in schools, hospitals, businesses, etc.....why would they do that if they love it here so much? Assimiliation IS important, JP....if they don't like AMERICAN culture why is it so important that they push their own above ours?

Those "some" who don't want to see Trump's name

In reply to: RE:personal appearance

Do you approve of their acts of vandalism when they see one? Couldn't they just turn their heads and look away? What would you do or say if you were walking down the street with a person who suddenly bolted into someone's yard to steal or vandalize a Trump/Pence sign? You're not shy about calling to attention those things you don't like about people here at SE. Could we presume your approval of the vandalism if you said nothing when actually witnessing it? But, back to my original question. Is stealing or vandalizing signs with Trump's name on them something for which you'd show support?

In reply to: Those "some" who don't want to see Trump's name

Is stealing or vandalizing signs with Trump's name on them something for which you'd show support?

NO...No matter whose name is on the sign.

Are YOU in favour of what Trump says about Mexicans being rapists and murderers?

Collapse -
You'll need to rephrase your question in a fashion

that represents what he actually said. The only person I've heard that has indicated that (all) Mexicans are rapists is Tim Kaine...Hillary's VP choice. From what I've been able to determine, Trump has claimed that Mexico...meaning the Mexican government...is sending it's less desirable people to the US. I have, long before Trump was on the scene, heard accusations similar to Trump's...that Mexican criminals were being exported the the US. I've not heard that this has been confirmed and don't expect I will. It's not unprecedented that countries who have prison populations they can no longer contain will attempt to find creative ways to dispose of them other than by execution. Does the Mexican government do such things? I can't say yes or no.
Now, the best I can offer to your question is a qualified answer. If Trump meant by saying that he assumes some of the Mexicans coming over here are good people but among them are rapists, murderers and drug dealers, he's likely correct.

Don't need it

In reply to: Did I say "all"?

There is something called "presumptives" in language. In the absence of a modifier, the presumptive may rule. If Kaine claimed that Trump said "Mexicans are rapists", the word "all" is the presumptive adjective. If I say "dogs hate cats", that means "all dogs hate cats". It can't be interpreted to mean a few, many, some, old, young, etc. It means all.

This isn't new stuff. This is the way the media and politicians twist words to change the meaning of an expression. Kaine didn't invent this. That this kind of twisting happens is probably a reason why many people have become careful in how they craft their speeches and how they answer questions. They know that the media and political opponents are looking for opportunities to reshape what was said to fit their agenda. Trump isn't good at crafting his language. He gives the media plenty of the kind of material that doesn't even make them dig for slip ups. You know right where he stands without having to wade through eloquent language that does more to impress than to inform.

Possible senior moment in terminology

In reply to: Don't need it

The word I recall hearing could be "presumed" rather than "presumptive". We had presumptives and resumptives. This was taught long ago when I'd rather have been climbing a tree than learning sentence structure. Tree climbing turned out to be a more useful skill.

I took the time to find a video of Trump's actual words

In reply to: So you don't want to talk about

and, as best as possible, view the speech in context. No! Media spin isn't something I'm prone to rely on. I've already said to you that Trump isn't eloquent. I'd not say that if I didn't hear how he spoke. It was clear to me that the words being twisted would mislead as to what he actually said. I understood it as Trump speaking about a specific population of Mexican persons that were coming across the border. He was not talking about political or economic refugees. He was talking about the Mexican government's undesirables that they didn't want to imprison or care for. If you've been paying any attention over the past decades, Trump isn't the first person to suggest that the Mexican government is dumping these people in the US. It's old news. He's just repeating what's already been said by many others. So who should get the brunt of your criticism? Those who said this first or those who repeated it later?

You don't need to answer. I'm done with this one anyway.
