I tried posting this to the customer service area of download.com, but it kept telling me my problem was an AVG problem and to contact them (but it isn't an AVG problem). My message is here:
I got a virus downloading this about 5 hours ago.
When I first downloaded it, my AVG virus scan popped up "threat detected". I moved it to the vault but ran the program anyways because I was skeptical I could actually get viruses from this site. Because the program wanted me to close programs to continue installation (i.e. Firefox) that I couldn't close (I was using it), I stopped the installation. About the same time, Spybot started popping up with a message about every 3 seconds asking whether to permit or deny a registry change. I kept the denying the changes.
Kinda confused by this, and not really believing I got a virus with the download, I proceeded to download it again (basically immediately) to convince myself I wouldn't get a virus the 2nd time. The same thing happened again - the AVG warning, and the Spybot warnings. Convinced something was definitely wrong now, I permanently blocked the registry change. I tried running my AVG but the resident shield was disabled or something - so I reloaded it (v. 8.0) on my computer this morning (I'm in an Asian timezone) and it seems to be fine. I have yet to do a full scan with it. It did detect a virus when I pressed on the "Start menu button" of Vista, just after installation. Spybot came up clean.
Anyways - I'm going to reboot my computer now - but I thought I'd send this message (and backup files) while my computer is still running just in case something goes wrong with a reboot.
