I was wrong, that screw is hooked to a motor under the screw. It raises and lowers the first lens over the CCD and i think this is the fine focus. It must of been dropped and the whole time it was actualy just a connection problem to that motor so it wasnt moving back into the right position when the lens retracts.
Took 3 days for me to figure it out but i got it. A510 self portrait.
Maybe other models that fallow along the line of the A5xx series.
I got 2 A510 cameras of e-bay one was beyond repair one hadnt been opened. Inside the lens there is a lens over the CCD, there is an adjustment screw that is adjusted before the dress rings go on the outside of the lens. This screw stes the focus and once its set it its all closed up. The problem is the screw isnt set with any kind of lock tight so after some time the screw backs out and the lens jams. As the lens returns it jams on the first lens over the CCD. There are marks on the screw where it once was but no markings.
You have to tear the camera down pretty far to get into this section of the lens. If the little screw had a drop of locktight on it there would be no problem with them working loose and jamming the lens.
Both cameras had jammed lenses and both screws were loose
