Did you try ...

In reply to: I downloaded Adware 2008 I can't get it to run

Bueller..

I apologize if I'm taking nothing for granted. I'm basing the below suggestion, on the fact that you said you found the AAW 2008 .exe in your Program Files folder. Also because you mentioned you're not a "computer tech".

Did you try double-clicking on AAW's .exe, once you found it in the Program Files folder? If after doing so and AAW opens, you also have the option of creating a shortcut on your desktop, where can run the program from there. Right-click on AAW's .exe and choose "Send to" from the menu, then follow it to "Desktop (create shortcut).

Again.. my apologies if I misunderstood what you wrote.

tried double clicking

In reply to: Did you try ...

Carol-- tried double clicking...tried going to "start", "run", "browse", aaw2008.exe and it keeps giving me the not valid WIN 32 message. The not valid message comes immediately, so I get the sense it's not a start up command or actually doing anything, but giving me the error message. Beuller..

It IS free..

In reply to: tried double clicking

To rule out anything other than a corrupt installation, I would do as Glenn suggested and download it again. You said you were asked to pay for it. You may have clicked on the right side of the Lavasoft page where it says, "Get Ad-Aware Plus for free". It's their TRIAL version of AAW Plus. On the left side of the page is where you would click to get the FREE version.

To avoid the above altogether you can choose a mirror site, where you see "more download sites" in gray underneath the green "download" button. A list will show below and then choose Major Geeks. Just make sure not to click on any of the ads, if you should choose to use their mirror site.

http://lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

I would first uninstall anything Ad-Aware related, before trying to re-install it again. To include all your Temp files. If you have anything like CCleaner, I would run that it.

Let us know how you make out..

Not a valid Win32 application error message.

In reply to: It IS free..

FWIW thus far ..

Cause:
This issue can be caused by any of the below possibilities.

- File is corrupt, bad, or missing.
- File is not designed for your version of Windows.
- File is a virus, worm, or other malware file.
Hardware incompatibility.

I went to adware...I've got to buy something to get the free software...When I try to open the file it says that the .exe file is not a valid WIN 32 File. Ummmm Don't know what a WIN 32 file is...I figured if someone offers you software...and you download it...and you run the software...it should run? It's worked in the past...thanks for any help...

Lavasoft's Ad-aware is FREE !

Why don't you download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as an "alternative" ?

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware or alternate download link

* Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
* Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
* When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
* When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
* - Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
* - Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
* Then click Finish.
* MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
* If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.

* On the Scanner tab:
* - Make sure the "Perform Quick Acan" option is selected.
* - Then click on the Scan button.
* The next screen will ask you to select the drives to scan. Leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
* The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
* When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
* Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
* Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
* Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
* The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.

* -- Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

**If you encounter this message:"c:\program files\malwarebytes'

It is FREE and updates are daily.

problem resolved

Thank you all for your input. Problem resolved. For those who care what happened...I had an option to "save" the download in a file of my choice or "open" the download. I was choosing to "save" the download. I decided to try one more time, and chose to "open" the download instead. Ah-ha! This is the opposite of "attachments" to emails. If I open an attachment, it is not saved on my computer. Hey...I'm not a tech. Thanks.

Great job :)

... but....... it would be wiser next time to save a downloaded file to your desktop and scan the file with your Anti Virus BEFORE installing . Better safe than sorry Wink

My idea

In reply to: Great job :)

Was to create a folder on the desktop, name it "Maintenance," and drag and drop all my maintenance programs to that folder. That way, I don't have to look around for whatever I need to run.

Possibly A Re-Directing BHO or DNS Cache Poison?

In reply to: went to Adware

Likely Marianna's suggestion will get it. Perhaps I have DNS re-directs on the brain from the news as well as having had this (DNS) problem about 2 years ago & having to "flush" it. Good Luck! Happy
