Question

I cleaned up my computer but now...

when I try to finish downloading a program like itunes, it says "Your system has not been modified".

Is it the downloading the setup program that gives this messages or the running of it. Downloading is just copying it to a folder on your hard disk. Running it is running it to install the program. Makes a lot of difference.

This message - I assume - only means that the setup didn't succeed, so your system is not changed.

To solve this try if uncleaning by doing a system restore back to before you messed up solves the problem. If not, tell more about what "cleaned up" exactly means.

It's the running it to install the program.
I Reformatted it after taking information I wanted to keep, off onto dvd-r disks.

EXACTLY how you "cleaned up" your computer? Details would be nice,

That "clean up" is likely the cause of the problem and if you used one of the common file and registry cleaners known to cause such problems there is a chance that it has an option to UNDO the clean up.

well I copied all of my pictures and files i wanted to keep onto DVD-R disks. then I did a system restore and thats about all I did and when I tried downloading things like fire fox or itunes and most of everything, except google chrome was able to download and this program called pencil, thats about it.

consider a spare partition

consider a spare partition one g in size or smaller
PUT MINIMUM SYSTEM in it and have dualboot option menu
