Question

I can't get into my Microsoft account or reset the passsword

Mar 21, 2017 12:27PM PDT

Hi

I don't think I am the only one with this problem, but having issues with the Microsoft updates, I now can't even log into my Microsoft account to get to their forum. It tells me the sign in page isn't available (or goes blank). If I try a password reset it just sends me round to an advertisement page. I'm not very computerate, but I can't normally sign into my accounts OK. It's only this one (and Google) which ever give me these wort of problems.

Any advice please?

Is that only Microsoft can reset this. And as you discover there are scammers ready to help (part you from your money.)

Rather than try to get into your dead account, make a new one.

Well your MS account can be accessed

on any device. If you cant get to your account on another device your PC may have been compromised.

Will try what you suggest

Thank you to both. I will try first the second (as I have a laptop) and if that doesn't work I will try opening a new account.

(Trouble is, on many sites if you try and do this with the same email, which is all I have, it won't let you because it is "already in use" !)

I note that recently we have been having trouble with Microsoft cumulative updates trying to download, and just not doing it. We can't find any reason for this, but we know someone else who had this problem a year ago, again for no clear reason. That time he got it fixed by clearing all the previous update files, and trying again two or three times. But we have tried this and it hasn't worked. On the web it does seem that other people are having this problem, but there is no answer. (And any suggestion how to to go about clearing this and trying again is not up there. I am beginning to wonder if Microsoft itself won't allow any "advanced" methods of dealing with things, to be posted, in case people get into trouble. This wasn't very advanced, though.)

Last thing, could No Script be interfering? I had it switched off, but I hear comments from other users occasionally that it can interfere with some sites while it is installed, even which "switched off".

Thanks again. I will see what happens.

Be sure to try again with the edge browser.

thanks for replying.

Do you mean that trying another computer may cause a problem?

Or do you mean that I should wait for a while and try again?
